If you celebrate the upcoming holiday, Happy Easter! If not, Happy Weekend!
The way we spend holidays changed dramatically after M and I moved from Iowa to Texas. Gone were the holidays spent attending big, family get-togethers with homemade goodies that stretched for miles. Although we miss the old holiday traditions, our little family of three has created our own, treasured traditions.
We often use holidays as a time to hit up the touristy destinations in and around the San Antonio area. Especially during the early morning hours, places like the River Walk, The Alamo and Hemisfair Park are usually fairly desolate. It’s wonderful to mosey around and take our time enjoying the scenery, without having to weave around the throngs of tourists.
So, although we are unable to spend this weekend with our families, we are going to take the advice on the sign below and play on the grass!
We are taking advantage of every moment during these last couple of months in Texas. Here’s what on the agenda for this weekend:
- A visit to dog friendly Austin with Gus:
- Zilker Botanical Garden
- Walk along Lady Bird Lake
- Lunch at McCormick & Schmick’s – free $30 to use during my birthday month! Free lunch? Yes please.
- Gus friendly shopping at The Domain
- Travel planning:
- We must conclude the Los Angeles portion this weekend – the city is taking us forever to plan!
- Start on San Francisco planning – *squeal* We heart SF and may decide to conclude our travels and live happily ever after there. Just kidding. Sort of. π
- Hike at Eisenhower Park with Gus
We’re cramming a lot in this weekend and are anxious to get started. The camera battery is charged, the memory card cleared and our day bag is packed. We’re hitting the road this a.m.!

Your list for the Easter weekend looks great, have fun and enjoy all your activities. We have also developed our own Easter traditions, as I am far away from my family (who are very traditional when it comes to religious holidays). We’ve kept a few traditions like dying eggs red, etc., but have added modern touches like barbecues. Going away, long walks and visits to nice places are on our list, too, if the weather and location permits it.
Have a happy Easter, guys!

Hi Gus and family. I’m just catching up on my blog reading, and stopped by to say hi! Happy Easter. I might have missed your post about planning for LA. Do you have anything special planned? Feel free to send me an email or hit me up for some LA insights. If you decide to stop by Venice, we’d be happy to show your around, or just meet for coffee : ) – Christine & Toki

Hey Gus,
Your weekend sounds like lots of fun!
Did I read correctly? Is there really a chance (even a little one) you could live in SF? We could be neighbours!! I’m so gonna lobby your Mum & Dad to go for it, SF is pawsome!! π

It could take a month to plan L.A. and two months to see it! Good luck with that!
I also love going to touristy places in the “off-season” (which probably doesn’t exist in TX, so you go on the “off-days”). And I’d love to go somewhere they encourage you to play on the grass!
