TGIF!
We wish our current computer troubles were just an April Fool’s joke, but sadly they are not. We’ve been dealing with the dreaded Blue Screen of Death for the last two days. Luckily, we have spare laptops and a new one on its way. The real problem is that ALL of our photos are on the one that’s sick. Grrrr….
Note to self: move photos onto an external hard drive more than twice per year!
So, we will leave you with a repeat Gus photo that we’re head over heels for and call it a day.
Okay, we lied. We also wanted to share a cool new feature for all you WordPress bloggers. Did you know you can now easily embed Twitter updates on your blog? It’s easy peasy and looks pretty cool, right? If you have a tweet you’d like to include in your post, all you have to do is click on the part of the tweet that lists time (i.e. 22 minutes ago), copy the url and paste it into your post on a separate line. Voila! As you can see below, we’re embedding our tweet from last night when we thought we’d be post-less today. The best part is that you can reply, retweet or favorite directly from this screen. Give it a whirl!

We hope to be back up and running for tomorrow’s Saturday Pet Blogger Hop. Adios amigos!

Oh, God, we’re so completely dependent on our computers that this must be our worst nightmare. So sorry it’s happening to you, I hope you’ll be able to solve all these problems by tomorrow.
I did get the notification about Twitter, but haven’t had time to work it out. Thanks for doing it for me! xxx

As a computer consultant’s wife, I feel I should suggest DUEL back-ups when it comes to photos. Keep them on your main computer AND an external drive that you update WEEKLY. Until you’ve backed up the computer on the external, keep the photos on the the camera memory card so you always have two copies no matter what.
I know one obsessive-compulsive person (and it’s not, but it so easily could be) that just buys new memory cards for her camera every time one gets full. So she has the memory cards, the pix on the computer, and of course, she actually prints them out. As your pictures of Gus are your LIFE, yes, make backing up a priority!
Hope the new computer arrives soon, and we have a fun post to read tomorrow!

OMG….that is a lot of memory cards!!
You are so right on backing up. We keep the photos on our main computer and also back up to an external HD. The problem is not backing up often enough! Thanks for the scolding, we needed it. 😉

It’s not a scolding– it’s professional advice! 🙂 (The most stressful call a consultant gets: “My hard drive just died and I haven’t backed it up in a while” [or ever]…)

Yeah, I left out the word “me” in the sentence “so easily could be me.” I am doing that more and more these days. It’s not just computers that need their memory upgraded…

Oh, I feel your pain! Thanks for the reminder to make backups… I just found that a lot of my old cd’s no longer have any files on them, and that USED to be my backup system… so afraid of losing old photos of Seamus who passed on a few years back… now I’m moving the rest onto my Mac, where then I can get another external drive…. Amazing though no matter HOW big a drive you get, it always fills up! Hope you can recover your photos. I took my computer to Staples and they were able to transfer all my data to a new drive the last time I had a problem… maybe something to try?

You are so right…we have two external drives and they are both almost full. I’m glad you mentioned that about cd’s. Although we have the photos backed up on an external drive, there are some (pre-digital) that are only on cd. I’m going to check mine this weekend.
We think we can get in to our laptop in safe mode to transfer everything, but we’ll keep that in mind about Staples. Thanks for the tip!

Oh, Horror….the blue screen of death! We all think it won’t happen to us. Thanks for reminding me to back up my photos this weekend. I think it’s been almost a year 🙂

One reason why I love my Mac. I never have to deal with the blue screen of death again. Although sometimes I get the “spinny wheel of death.”
I am horrible at backing up as well. It is something so easy to do, however for some reason it just doesn’t get done as much as it should.
Beautiful photo of Gus!

Hey Gus and Lori,
That’s a great tip about twitter……:)
I hope you don’t loose all your great pics, hope you’re foolin’ with us! 🙂
On the backup, my Mum uses a Mac and has something called a Time Capsule that backs up automatically every hour, it can do lots of computers in the house using wifi. You could also put your pics in a virtual space, I think it may be called Dropbox – hope this helps……

I hate computer issues. I was sooo lucky this year-I got an external hard drive for Christmas. The same day I opened it and backed up my computer, my hard drive got fried. So, I’m better about backing up things now.
I can’t do twitter. 1. I just don’t have enough going on for it and 2. when something is going on, I need way more tan 140 characters. LOL

Thanks for the Tweet tip. Sorry to hear your computer is sick. We’ve been through that a couple of times. I try and keep photos in lots of separate places, but sometimes we get busy. This is a good reminder for us.
