Gus loves when he hears us say “collar” and enthusiastically wags his tail (to the right) when we mention the word. To Gus, putting his collar on signals that we’re back home with no plans on leaving, which is just how he likes it.
We purchased this adorable collar and leash a few years ago from WaLk-e-Woo. After spending countless hours scouring the internet for the perfect set, we finally settled on the green polka dots. We have a mild obsession with a) anything kiwi or avocado green in color, b) polka dots and c) kick-ass small businesses with taglines like, “the bitches Love ’em”. Clearly, WaLk-e-Woo was the trifecta. Every time we put his collar on we sing, “WaLk-eee-Woo0ooooooo”. Gus fully appreciates our singing, but we can guarantee you he’s the only one.
Gus was very concerned when I took his collar off to snap the next couple of photos. Mom, you’re not leaving the house, are you?
The leash is getting a bit worn from being drug on the ground one-too-many times during our walks, but otherwise they’re as good as new. Is it crazy that we’re a bit sentimental when it comes to his collar and leash? We have a couple of new collars to add to the mix, but it’ll be weird not to see him in his cheerful polka dots everyday.
Out of curiosity, does your dog wear his/her collar all the time? We take Gus’s collar off when he’s left alone in the house and at bedtime. Once we’ve all climbed into bed we say, “time to get into your jammies!”.
P.S. Remember when we bragged blogged about our balmy 80 degree day? Well, we didn’t get to enjoy it for very long…it’s only 25 degrees right now and only 10 degrees with the wind chill. Brrrr! This is what Gus did last night to stay warm…

80 to 25 overnight is just awful! How does your body adjust to that?! 😦
I don’t think it’s crazy to be sentimental about his collar. When Lu outgrew her first pink leopard print collar, we had to find another just like it! The pink leopard print became her “thing”.
Neither of my dogs wear collars at home. Two reasons:
1) They have very short, thin fur and it gets rubbed off very easily when they wear a collar too often. (We have to get handmade all-cotton collars because nylon irritates their skin something AWFUL! ) Fortunately, we have a fenced in yard, so even if they ran out the door without a collar on they wouldn’t get far.
2) When they play, they go straight for the collars and try to rip them off each other! LOL

Cute collar…love the polka dots. Tiffy leaves her collar on during the day, but she’s never alone. This makes sense for us since Yorkies (because of their small bladders) need to make frequent trips outside during the day:) Taking Gus’s collar off sounds like a good idea and I’m sure he enjoys the break from wearing it.

I bought Sabrina’s collar from Harrods when I was in London last spring. It’s pink with jeweled flowers on it. She only wears it when she’s going out of the house.
I was finding that she made a lot more snorting/snoring noises when it was on and was worried that it was pressing on/bothering her larynx. Gotta love Pugs.
When I show Sabrina her collar and go to put it on she always gets excited because she knows it means either a walk or a ride in the car. It’s her reaction to her sweater that is really cute. Again, the sweater only goes on for outings. When I approach her with it,she shoves her head through the neck opening to get it on faster.
I love Gus’s polka-dot collar. I’m pretty partial to anything green.

I always count on Gus my daily AWWWW! Wow that’s an incredible temperature drop – tough on the body! Daisy wears no collar in the house and just her harness when we go out. We should call her the “Naked Puppy”….kinda like the “Naked Chef” LOL!

Now I am really feeling bad we just kept Shiva’s SPCA collar for so long. What kind of neglectful dog parent am I?
I know I probably should remove her collar when I go out, just in case. But I don’t always remember. Perhaps it’s not a bad idea to take it off all the time we are in the house and only put it on when we take her out. Lest her separation anxiety return with such an obvious signal of our coming departure. Hmmm.
That is a pretty big temperature jump. But as a snow-laden Canadian, I am not feeling very sorry for you right now. 😉

As I was writing this post, I tried to remember why we started to take his collar off when we left. I think we read that their collar can get caught on their crate, etc… It seems like a silly concern, but we’re ULTRA paranoid when it comes to Gus. And you are definitely not a neglectful dog parent, silly girl!

I love your pics of Gus and his leash and collar are adorable. I am thinking of getting Kirby a summer type leash, right now he has a dark blue one to match his collar and a glow in the dark one, but I’m thinking of getting a springy type colored one (he will be thrilled I’m sure!).

That collar is adorable but not as cute the pup wearing it!! We don’t wear collars at all (although we’re going to look at Walk-e-Woo!) There are three of us and we like to rough-house so no collars for us…we have a big fenced yard too, so we can go out without one. If we leave our own yard for walks or trips Mom puts harnesses on us with all our tags.
And we dont’ do so well at “Wordless” Wednesday’s either 😉 But they haven’t kicked us off yet!

Hi! Gus, it’s me, Buddy! I luv your collar, Dude! and your nice warm blankie! I personally don’t like collars. I use to hide when I saw it. I’ll wear a gentle lead harness because that’s the only way I get to go out. I just look forward to getting to the mountain so I can walk free. I love those collars, but flat collars tend to mat our dogs’ shaggy coats. I keep collars (rolled leather or White Pine) on mine at all times because I have one escape artist, and have owned escape artists in the past. Much as I despair of ever keeping everybody’s necks mat-free, I’d rather that my guys not be out without ID.

Our girls wear collars all the time. I am afraid of a “prison break” and I KNOW the only way they would ever have a chance of coming home would be the collar with tags. Now, we do take them off for bath time so usually when the collar comes off, the look of dismay comes ON their face since that is the “code” for bathtime!

I get to take my collar off when it’s ‘time for bed’ – Mum soon realised I couldn’t sleep in my collar as it’s too noisy with my tags on it. She does however, like me to keep it on in the house as I think she uses it as a tracking device and can always hear when I’m on the move, just as if I’m gonna get up to mischief! tee hee…..
It must be strange getting one really hot day and then back to cold again, I hope you didn’t shed all your fur!? We have cold nights and mornings and then sunny days, it’s been mid 60’s to 70 – I like it like this, it gets too hot for me in the summer.
I think I’m gonna head on over to check out those collars now, they look kinda funky, maybe it’s time to ditch this black one?

Cute, cute Gus! Kirby wears his collar 24/7. I take it off only for his bath and he has a fit to get it back on afterwards. He’s a puller so he wears a harness (with his collar) if we go on an outing where he’ll be doing some walking. Have to say only time his collar bothered him was when we had Bella cos she would grab his collar and pull him around.

Wow did you get paid back for the 80 degree post 🙂 I love teh green polka dot collar. We leave Spike and Dru’s collars on all the time but now that I think about it we probably shouldn’t. They are both almost due for new collars and we were going to look at Up Country but being a “kick ass” small business owner myself, we would much rather go that route. I also adore their tag line.
Spike LOVES his chew toys. It goes everywhere with him; inside, outside, bed…everywhere.

We can’t get too sentimental over Dottie’s collars – she gets them WAY too dirty to hang on to them for too long. (She even wore out a Lupine, but they last the longest!) Mingus, meanwhile, has had his same 2 Lupines for about 4 years now.
We always remove collars when we leave the pups alone at home. We always leave them on at night a) so we can hear the pups and b) because I’m always afraid we’re going to have to escape from a fire or something in the middle of the night and they will need them. (I also keep leashes in the bedside drawers. Yes, I’m a little neurotic…)

We call no-collar time “wild, naked and free!” I think it’s great to be sentimental about collars and leashes – I started saving Daley’s collars and now that he has angel status and is always “wild, naked and free!” I love the fact that I have them and if I want to, can look back at them – worn collars remind me of happy times and adventures!

I also remove Jasper and Daisy’s collars when we get home. Daisy recognizes that when I say “Let’s get your collar on!” that it means she’s going to the dog park. She always comes out of her kennel so I can put it on. It’s kind of a big deal with us because for Daisy, touching her collar was a big deal. She was always terrified whenever anyone, including me, tried to grab it (my only guess is that the puppy mill owners would grab her by a collar and pull her out of her kennel when they wanted to breed her), so I introduced the idea of taking it off when we got home and putting it on when we were leaving as a way to take the fear out of someone touching her collar. It’s worked quite well.
I searched high and low for a collar with daisies on it. I really wanted a blue one with daisies, but settled for a light purple one with daisies because it came with a matching leash. I may have to go looking again. It’s getting pretty rough too.
