Happy Blog Hop Saturday! We hope you enjoy our post as we highlight another San Antonio dog friendly destination, Los Patios.
Los Patios is located on 20 (beautiful!) acres in NE San Antonio. According to their website, the site of Los Patios was once inhabited by nomadic Indians drawn to the shade and water of Salado Creek.
Los Patios’ dog friendly rules are prominently displayed at the entrance. While we totally understand and respect why a restaurant wouldn’t allow dogs on the chairs, it was disappointing for Gus. He’s used to sitting on a chair while he’s waiting for us to finish eating. We did break one rule (shhh, don’t tell on us) and gave him a small piece of duck jerky to keep him occupied. Of course, we’re not posting any photographic evidence. 😉
This next photo is our new favorite of Gus. M and I both agree that he looks sort of sad, but his sweet, sleepy eyes and long, wispy ears make our hearts melt!
As usual, Gus was very curious and so we spent the first few minutes walking around so he could check the place out. So many new, exciting smells!
It took Gus awhile to find a comfortable spot, but before long he was snoozing away…
Now that the cute dogger photos are all accounted for…let’s talk about the food! I have a real obsession passion for food photography and always lug our DSLR with us when we dine out. Poor M is so used to my antics that he sits patiently when his food arrives knowing I’ll want to snap a few photos. What a guy!
*Warning* The following biscuit photo may cause you to drool on your keyboard.
Believe me, these biscuits were as delicious as they look. Flaky, golden brown and sitting in a pool of butter. OMG. I want a biscuit right now!
Seriously, is there anything better than a bowl of cheese soup? I think not! Unfortunately, it didn’t taste quite as yummy as it looked. Have no fear, all was okay in the world once we dunked our biscuit in it. 😉
Mmmmm…waffle fries.
We topped off our lunch with a slice of strawberry pie! We don’t normally order dessert but splurged because we had a Living Social certificate. It was definitely worth the extra calories.
We had the entire gorgeous patio all to ourselves. Apparently, 70 degrees is too chilly for Native Texans to dine outside. As former Iowans, the weather couldn’t have been more ideal.
Next time we visit Los Patios we’ll be sure to take a stroll on the walking trails.
Here’s our dining recap:
********************************
+ Dog Friendly Patio
+ Very Friendly Staff (they all loved Gus!)
+ Living Social discount ($30 certificate for $15)
+ Conveniently located off Loop 410
+ Ambiance
+/- Average food (dog friendly dining will be the reason we return)
********************************
We passed this sign on our way out of Los Patios and it’s the perfect photo for us to end our post on. Thanks for visiting. Come back soon!

What a beautiful place. The food looks really delicious.
I’ve never seen a rule about not feeding your dog. I’m sure there’s a reason. I can’t help but wonder if they make exceptions to allow service dogs inside the restaurant.

What a lovely place to eat! What i appreciate most is that the do’s and don’ts are clearly displayed to avoid confusion. that way everybody has a happy meal 🙂 If I’m ever tripping thru San Antonio I’m going to check this place out.

We agree…clearly stating the rules puts everyone at ease. If only certain people (ahem) would adhere to the rules!

Wow, you really are a good food photographer. I don’t particularly care for biscuits but your photo even made me hungry.
Based on those rules, I can just imagine what’s happened with previous visitors–people putting plates on the ground for their dogs to lick. Yes, I know we all do it at home but non-animal people (include those in the health department) just don’t understand.
I’d give anything for a 70 degree day to dine on a patio right about now.

Los Patios was the first restaurant in SA to be “officially” dog friendly. We’re sure they were following the City’s guidelines and are just glad to be able to visit with Gus.
Our weather is nuts right now…high of almost 80 for tomorrow!

Oh my goodness! Those biscuits look AMAZING! And that pie?! You’re killing me! (I have a passion for Food “porn”, too. lol Have you ever checked out Tastespotting.com?)
The grounds at Los Patios are gorgeous. We’re dreaming of a warm day full of green grass, instead of all this white snow… The stuff is piled up about 5′ high here now and we’re supposed to be getting another doozy of a storm this week… *pout*
I gotta say, I do think that’s kind of silly that you can’t feed your dog at a dog friendly restaurant though.. I’d call that more “dog tolerant” than dog friendly… lol

Oh yeah, I know ALL about Tastespotting. I also am mildly obsessed with The Pioneer Woman 🙂

Wow! I so wish we had a place like that here! Of course, it would only be open in summer here, but it looks like a wonderful place to hang out. I have to admit that seeing all the Gus pictures makes me think he would be awfully hard to say “no” to when he wants something. Seriously, that face! Those eyes! Killer man!
I also want to thank you for posting food pictures. Now I’ve got to run to the grocery store and get some biscuits – mouth watering.
If Daisy, Jasper and I ever make it to San Antonio, we’ll be checking this place out!
Have a nice hop!

The food looks delicious – wish I was within a state or two so I could enjoy it! The fourth picture UP from the biscuits (laying on a towel, looking up) is a beauty!

Thanks for the nice compliment! It was pure luck the photo turned out so well. If only I remembered the settings. Sigh…

Oh, man, that looks lovely! We’re under 4 feet of snow here… my patio is completely under the snow with only vague bumps where the table and chairs are… and the icicles are completely menacing… I’d give almost anything to dine al-fresco right about now, but we are in for at least two more months of winter… so thank you for letting me live vicariously through your posts! And the privilege of bringing your dog to the restaurant, that’s UNHEARD of here! Well, except in Provincetown, MA (one of our favorite summer sailing destinations), but that’s a whole different world. 🙂

What a gorgeous spot! It would be awesome if more restaurants allowed dogs on their patios. There are a few in town here but the locations aren’t nearly as scenic. And, of course, the patios are only open in the summer months. 😛 Maybe it is time we considered Texas…
Thanks for sharing your meal with us! Those biscuits looked amazing.

I miss living in Central Texas every day, but one look at that patio and I almost burst into tears of nostalgia. I love the new photos of Gus, too.

Agree that your photos are AMAZING! We have a lot of dog friendly restaurants here in the Rockport, Port Aransas area. Lola always sits in the chair so I am sure she would be in quite a snit to be told to stay on the ground……like a DOG!….sheesh! lol! She can be a little snooty that way!
