According to Gus, dining along the San Antonio River Walk is a fabulous way to spend an afternoon.

Waxy O’Connor’s is one of our favorite places to dine in San Antonio.  Why, you ask?  Their outdoor patio is dog-friendly!  It’s the perfect spot to stop for lunch or an ice-cold beer.

While working on our post for the Pet Blogger Challenge, we realized we hadn’t devoted enough of our blog  posts to the city we live in.  We created this blog to gather and share information on the best dog friendly hotels, destinations, restaurants and travel products.  What we hadn’t done (until now!) is highlight our favorite spots in San Antonio.  We hope you’ll tag along while we spotlight the Alamo City!

Gus was exhausted after our 2.5 mile walk.  A tired dogger = a relaxing lunch for his parents.

As mentioned, Waxy O’Connor’s is located right on the River Walk.  We happened to catch a Rio San Antonio guide boat passing by.

As usual, the view from our table was spectacular.  The River Walk is truly San Antonio’s gem.

Guess who perked up once our order arrived?  A piece of duck jerky (and a hunk of hamburger) satisfied his hunger pains.

Seriously, M and I would be ten pounds lighter if we could resist ordering greasy (but delicious) menu items.  Obviously, willpower wasn’t in the cards for us this particular day.  However, it was delicious and totally worth the calorie overload.  Why oh why must french fries be so yummy?

Okay, enough blabbering about our addiction to fried foods.  Here’s the rundown of our experience at Waxy O’Connor’s:

********************************

+ Dog Friendly Patio
+ Very Friendly Staff
+ Restaurant.com discount
+ Located on the River Walk
+ Fabulous spot for people-watching
+ Happy hour drink specials (mmmm….beer)
– Food is only so-so (view and location are the main attraction)
– Restrooms are slightly scary (i.e. dingy, dark)

In summary, we’re Waxy O’Connor fans!  We truly appreciate that they allow doggers on their patio.  After a long week of work, we look forward to spending our weekends with Gus, including lunch!  The fact that it’s located right on the River Walk is just icing on the cake.

Do you dine with your dogger?  If so, please share the details with us!  We’re planning for our trip and would love to add your favorite to our list!
