Good morning!  We’re taking part in the Pet Blogger Challenge hosted by Go Pet Friendly and Will My Dog Hate Me?.  Although our blog was created just a few months ago, we thought it was a great opportunity to share more about our blog and meet fellow dog bloggers.  Even if you’re just learning about the challenge today, it’s not too late to join in!  Create your own post based on the questions below (or add your own) and link up.  Enjoy!

  • When did you begin your blog?

October 2010

  • What was your original purpose for starting a blog?

In June 2011, we will be departing (with Gus) on a 4-5 month trip around the U.S.  While travel planning for dog-friendly destinations, hotels and attractions, we discovered the fabulous dog blogging community.  According to Gus was created to gather travel and product information from other bloggers and to share our travel experiences.

  • Is your current purpose the same? If not, what’s different? If so, how do you feel you’ve met your goals?

The purpose of the blog today is the same as it was when we started.  However, we do feel behind in sharing our own dog-friendly experiences.  There are several parks, restaurants and tourist destinations here in San Antonio that we’ve yet to blog about.  Adding more posts about our favorite spots to take Gus is one of our short-term goals.

  • Do you blog on a schedule or as the spirit moves you? If the former, how often — and what techniques do you use to stick to it? If the latter, do you worry about… well, whatever you might worry about (e.g. losing traffic, losing momentum)?

We blog at least four new posts per week.  Normally, the posts are on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

  • Are you generating income from your blog? If so, how (e.g. sponsor ads, affiliate relationships, spokesperson opportunities)? If not currently, do you hope to in the future — and how?

We do not generate any income from our blog.  While we never intend to generate any income, we are interested in reviewing dog-related travel products and destinations.  We are loyal Yelp and TripAdvisor users, and always check those two sites before we try new restaurants and hotels.  Personal reviews are a fantastic tool when making product or travel purchases and we’d like to become a site where travelers can visit for dog-friendly recommendations.

  • What do you like most about blogging in general and your blog in particular (bragging is good!)?

What we enjoy most about blogging is reading and discovering new dog blogs.  The dog blogging community is so friendly and we’ve already made so many new friends.  We’re constantly adding new blogs to our Google Reader!

Blogging is also forcing us to learn more about our DSLR camera.  We purchased it last May and are still learning how to use it!  Our favorite blogs to read are those with lots of fabulous photography and it inspires us to improve our camera skills.

  • What do you like least?

Since our blog is so new, there is nothing we don’t like about the experience so far.  However, there is definitely the possibility it will become overwhelming this year.  Since we’ll be traveling for a solid 4-5 months, it will be difficult to both enjoy our travels and write the type of posts we intend to write.

  • How do you see your blog changing or growing in 2011?

Our lives will change dramatically over the next five short months.  It’s both exciting and terrifying to bullet point all the life changing events that will occur in 2011!

  • Selling the house we’ve lived in for almost seven years
  • Temporarily moving all of our large belongings to Iowa
  • Traveling with Gus across the U.S. for 4-5 months (or as long as it takes us!)
  • After traveling, moving to….destination undecided (eeek!)
  • Finding new jobs, buying a new house, settling into a new community

During all the chaos, we’ll be updating our blog and sharing Gus’s life.  Making sure Gus is acclimated to all the change is our top priority.  He is definitely a creature of habit and we want to be sure he continues to live a happy, healthy life, no matter where we are.  Besides, home is wherever we are…as long as we’re all together!

Thanks for reading our post today and learning more about our blog.  We hope you’ll visit us again soon.  If you have any travel recommendations, we’d love to hear them!  We’ll be traveling through approximately 47 states this year and are always looking for fabulous dog-friendly destinations.  Is there a favorite place in your hometown you love to take your beloved dogger with?  If so, please share the details with us!
